NNMFHC Hosts RxP Board and the VHCF to Provide Comprehensive Care to the Uninsured
KILMARNOCK, Va. – Rx Partnership (RxP), a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to prescription medications across Virginia, held its quarterly board meeting at the Northern Neck-Middlesex Free Health Clinic (NNMFHC) on March 14, 2025. The meeting underscored the organizations’ shared commitment to addressing healthcare disparities and celebrated NNMFHC’s role as RxP’s newest Central Fill pharmacy partner.
The Clinic also recently hosted the Virginia Health Care Foundation (VHCF) on March 31, 2025 as they visited to observe patient care and program administration. “For the NNMFHC’s entire 32-year history, the VHCF has been a guiding force, helping the Clinic launch new initiatives with key grant funding and ensuring program sustainability,” said Jean Nelson, NNMFHC CEO. “The VHCF has provided pivotal support in in establishing and helping maintain the NNMFHC’s Medical Clinic and Dental Clinic as well its Pharmacy. Over the years, the VHCF funded our first nurse practitioner, helped open and staff the Dental Clinic, assisted with a behavioral health program, and funded our first dental hygienist. Their support is wide-ranging and irreplaceable.”

NNMFHC, a cornerstone for uninsured individuals in the Northern Neck and Middlesex regions, offers primary care, chronic disease management, and preventive services. RxP, a nonprofit facilitating prescription access, and VHCF, a state-funded organization expanding healthcare resources, are pivotal partners in this initiative.
The meeting on March 14 provided RxP board members with an immersive look into NNMFHC’s operations which include pharmacy, medical care, dental care and outreach services. Brittany Harding, Pharmacist in Charge, has been instrumental in working with the NNMFHC pharmacy team to become a Central Fill explained her process. Great connections were made, as Harding’s former professor, Dr. K.C. Ogbonna, Dean of the VCU School of Pharmacy attended the meeting and the tour, as well as Dourina Petersen, Executive Director of NNMFHC’s newest partner, Chesapeake Care Clinic.
During the Rx Partnership board meeting, NNMFHC staff and their board chair, Dr. Vicki Kinsel, described the impact that the current political environment is having on the Clinic’s patients and operations. NNMFHC is conscious that any changes to Medicaid could have dramatic consequences for the people they serve, and therefore the Clinic and Rx Partnership.
Through the RxP and VHCF partnerships, the Clinic obtains valuable input from leaders across Virginia on the best ways to address rural health issues and concerns, and fill health-care gaps, Nelson said. “Both organizations facilitate our ability to secure medications for our patients,” she said. “The partnerships have allowed us to grow, and be the health-care home for thousands of people each year.”
